I think the color of fall leaves are designed to let us down gently and guide us into colder weather with some consolation. Reality sets in, and I have to face the fact that there is absolutely no chance of 80 degree days for a long, long time- this is when I finally embrace the beauty of fall. We planted Virginia Creeper on a trellis outside the kitchen window with this time in mind. When the sun from the Southern sky streams in through the crimson red and firey orange leaves and looks like stain-glass windows…. that’s when I can say – OK Fall, come on in – you are beautiful and you are welcome.
It’s time to light the fire, break open some wine, and curl up with a good book.
