WHO WE ARE

Co–founders/ head color nerds
Virginia Young and Janie Lowe
YO and LO

Virginia Young and Janie Lowe's passion for color is rooted in their formal training and education in fine art. It is this passion for color, and their inherent entrepreneurial spirit that led Young and Lowe to launch YOLO Colorhouse®, an environmentally responsible paint with a natural palette.

Virginia Young, who holds a degree in Fine Art from Colorado College, continued her education in graphic design at the Portfolio Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Among other positions, she served as an art director for J. Walter Thompson advertising in New York, creating national campaigns for clients such as Kodak, Lubriderm and Lipton.

Janie Lowe received her degree in Fine Art from Texas Tech University and her Master of Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her illustrations have appeared in The New York Times Book Review and on Random House book covers. Lowe illustrated The Great Ridley Rescue, a book educating people about the plight of the endangered Ridley sea turtle. Janie has taught figurative painting, color theory and design at Marylhurst University in Oregon.

Since 1996, Young and Lowe have owned a custom paint and plaster finishes company in Portland, Oregon. Their work earned attention and accolades on the pages of national shelter magazines, set the mood at upscale restaurants, and transformed the interiors of private homes. In 2000, they made a commitment to use paint and plaster products that had lower impact on their own health, their clients' health and the environment, which resulted in the YOLO Colorhouse® line of paint. YOLO Colorhouse® is created by scientists and artists with nature in mind.
